Meyer's Elgin Smokehouse

We eat here often; best bbq for many miles. Meyers sausage is my husband's usual order, mine is the turkey; moist, lean & light smoking. Brisket is okay, but can be very fatty unless you order the lean. Don't care for the brisket sandwich: small amount of finely chopped meat with strong sauce on a large plain white bun.
On sides, order their beans; they are very good; if you eat in, you can refill them. I like the creamed corn, but it can get very thick.
We like their warm sauce; it's available if you eat there.
Market counter to one side on entering with large selection of sausage, so you can take it home; I not a sausage aficionado like my husband, but Meyer's sausage is quite tasty.
Wish they would offer small tastes of the different versions available, to help you choose; we usually get the beef or garlic. Oddly, he doesn't like their summer sausage & I do.

ALWAYS A PLEASURE! The brisket is just awesome my family has been in Elgin before I was born! And we keep going back! I dare you to purchase some fresh "broken pieces" is what we call them, purchase by the pound, steam cook/fry when you get home serve with homemade biscuits and grits...talk about southern meal, grew up on it!

A great place for BBQ! The brisket is moist and tender. The sausage is outstanding. The sauce is hot and tangy. If you don't go your only hurting yourself.

stopped here for lunch today. Had good food but not the best I've had. I had a sliced beef sandwich with pickles and onions and my daughter had three meat plate with brisket and garlic pork sausage and the sides were macaroni and cheese and beans. I hate going to a barbecue place and they don't really have barbecued chicken. My favorite is barbecued chicken and they didn't really have this. They had some other kind of lime flavored chicken but that's not what I like. Good food though but about average I would say. Lots of barbecue places around here so you have to really shine in order to beat all of them.

I got food to go about 30 minutes before closing. The potato I ordered was a strange texture and between brown and orange inside. I had driven to my home in Austin so I was not able to return the food. Very disappointing. Update to original review- I was contacted by Meyer's. They were concerned about the issue with the potato. All of the other food in that order was very good. Just want to clarify that. I was very impressed that they took the time to address this! In fact, I went to Meyer's this last weekend and ordered a baked potato again. This one was perfect! 3/26/19
