Augie's Barbed Wire Smokehouse

The people are very nice! Parking was horrid and there's limited seating inside. The mashed potatoes and baked beans are delicious, the BBQ sauce is great, and they seem authentic (in coming technique). My meat was also cooked well. However, to me, the brisket just tasted like smoke. Yes, there should be a smoke flavor. But, I wish I had tasted the meat or some seasoning (even just a bit of salt) with the smoke. I know not everyone agrees, but I believe the flavors were imbalanced between just smoke and BBQ sauce.

Food, staff, service, smells, the food.. did I say the food! I got the Texas burger and I do believe my eyes rolled back into my head. It was by far THE BEST burger I've ever had. The beef ribs are the size of Texas, so meaty and amazing flavor. We only get 4 weeks in this area and you can bet we'll be back and tell every soul we meet on the road about this gem!! This review was typed a couple of days after visiting this location and now looking at the photos and writing about this yumminess I'm thinking its an Augie kind of night!!! No frills great BBQ place. I took my Airman here for lunch and it was really good. Brisket was tender and tasty, not a big fan of the jalapeño sausage but it was executed the proper way. Really nice hot dog. Chicken and the ribs where falling of the bone but not over cooked . Friendly service. Small draft selection with local brews. Will be back soon

Great BBQ! Beef ribs are always on point. Friendly staff. They offer a military discount as well. If you love smoked bbq, try this place out. It’s a locals gem.

The BBQ here at Augie's is amazing. One of the best in San Antonio. I ordered the brisket which was melt in your mouth delicious! And jalapeno sausage with sides of potatoes salad and cole slaw. Friendly service and reasonable wait time for food. Love the atmosphere, retro decor and live music. Very cool place.
