A friend took me here for lunch. What a surprise! I was just looking for some lunch and was not prepared for the flavors. The Brisket Smoke Show is fantastic.! The Chili noodles are just the right amount of hot, but not blistering, and the Cucumber slaw was very unusual. Minty, with some cabbage? We're going tomorrow again. I'm going to try the chicken.
The food is so fresh and delicious, you can taste the passion they put into the ingredients they use. Super good customer service, will be returning there. And definitely bring your friends!
Curry and smoky meat fusion? Yes please! It's delicious. Both the chicken and brisket were excellent. Get the brisket if you want bbq to be the star of the show and chicken if you want the curry to shine through more. Don't worry though, you'll get plenty of smoke and curry flavor with either dish.
The idea is certainly original: take Thai curry and add Texas BBQ. The BBQ tastes authentically Texas and the Thai curry tastes like any Thai curry you can get in SA. The combination is novel but doesn't deliver a distinct identity of its own. I could go order BBQ and then get take out at a nearby Thai place and combine the two on my own -- that's what Curry Boys was like.
Attention to the other ingredients needs to improve ASAP -- the potatoes should be cooked longer and the rice was dried out. The two sides I had -- the slaw and the cold noodles were bland and easily forgettable. I expected more of a punch from the so-called chili and garlic noodle sauce and the slaw was wilted and lacked the citrus zing I expected from the description.
For the cost of all this - two curries and two sides -- I expected the portion sizes to be larger for the price charged. I expected a large bowl of curry with several portions of BBQ submerged in the curry you had to slurp with a spoon. Instead, it was a plate of a piece of BBQ covered in a splash of curry-as-if-gravy and sided with dry rice. Disappointing upon first sight.
This was a missed opportunity for Curry Boys BBQ to stand out to me with their novel attempt at a fusion of local and abroad. I was excited to try but sadly let down by what seemed to be cut corners in preparation of basic ingredients and stale, bland side dishes that pushed my palate away from the dining experience.
This wasn't a good value for the price. Thanks to Curry Boys BBQ, I'll remember the idea of combining BBQ with Thai curry; however, I will not remember the taste as anything more than 3 stars.
The food was awesome and super flavorful! It’s got an amazing atmosphere and located right off the Saint Mary’s strip. It is BYOB! Parking is kind of tight but there’s plenty of nearby neighborhood parking to use. The employees are great and made it super easy to order and pick up the food. CDC compliant; everyone wore masks/gloves. I love a good bowl of curry and I could see our family picking up to go from them pretty often!
