Mastelo

"Great" is a word that sends us into ecstatic raptures. It's how we describe many of the best restaurants in the world. Yet, we just can't seem to find a great restaurant nearby that lives up to our standards—that is, until we hear about a new restaurant opening that's already getting rave reviews.

The chef here has a passion for steaks, and it shows. Our New York strip was juicy, tender, and perfectly grilled. We also tried a New York strip with porcini mushrooms and grilled portobello mushrooms, both of which were excellent. The sides were equally impressive. The asparagus was crisp, and the mashed potatoes were fluffy, garlicky, and irresistible. The cheesecake was silky and dense, and the cappuccino was fresh and creamy. The wine list is extensive and reasonably priced, and the wine by the glass is nice, too.

The atmosphere is relaxed, the service is friendly, and the atmosphere is elegant. The dining room is beautifully decorated. The walls are lined with photographs, including ones of oil portraits of famous chefs. The chairs are upholstered in linen, and the floors are stone.

Plenty of restaurants claim to be the best—but few can really back up that claim. To find the best restaurant, we extensively researched the country’s best restaurants, then put it to the ultimate test: We went to nine restaurants, rated their service and food, then tallied the results. We looked for restaurants that had passionate, friendly staffs; innovative menus; and, of course, great food.
