Velvet Taco

I won't return because I prefer basic Mexican street tacos. The purple tortilla #8 with water from the pico or something pouring out of it and soaking my hand and the paper wrapper were not at all pleasing. The 3.5 was a little better watery wise but the chicken was very dry. It had customers but no line and was not off because of being too busy. It was awfully expensive for the unpleasant tacos. I could tell that others really like it so I will guess that they enjoy the fancy ingredients and purple tacos aspects. Not even remotely basic Mexican food...not for me at all.

If you like the idea of a taco but never liked them the way they are traditionally prepared - this is a place for you. Some served in a regular tortilla, maybe with a bit of fried gruyere stuck to it from the bottom, some served on a black bean tortilla with mustard sauce.. some even resembling a salad with pieces of salmon in a leaf of lettuce instead of tortilla. So you tell me where exactly the word "taco" no longer applies - test your boundaries and let me know. I know that it's pretty good tasting food, somewhat surprising, it's sometimes more velvet than a taco, but it's different and you could put it on your bucket list if you can afford a bucket.

Velvet taco is not your average taco joint. It has fun and interesting flavor combinations. Even the sides are kicked up a notch. The tater tots with the egg on top are so good! We tried quite a few of the tacos better the group and we loved them all, even though they were very different flavor profiles. Also, most locations are open late, so it's a perfect place to come after being out all night.
