A favorite place for TexMex. The food was so savory. Definitely worth a return trip. Prices were fair for the quality of the food. Atmosphere is similar to a cafe in San Jose I loved.
The service here is outstanding; 3 different servers in 3 visits and all were attentive and checked that special orders were correct. Quick to refill beverages too! The food is excellent (highly recommend the half and half quesedilla).
El Vecino is a relatively new neighborhood Mexican place near Casa Linda, now with an additional location in Knox Henderson. While it claims to have basic Tex-Mex, and all the food is good, it is slightly different than basic Dallas style Tex Mex - perhaps a bit lighter (it's not Austin or San Antonio or Houston, either). It's nice for a change, but it's not my go-to Tex Mex restaurant. The mole is excellent, with a good balance. The two salsas are typically a little bit too spicy for my taste, and I like spicy food. The physical environment is hard and loud, but reasonably comfortable. Service is typically good but not great.
Not your average Tex Mex. El Vecino kicks it up to 11 in terms of flavor, menu selection, and service. The food is great, but to me it feels more refined than your standard Tex Mex establishment. Yes there are enchiladas, but maybe consider the mole instead of the cheese sauce. Yes there is Chile Relleno, but its only served on Tuesdays and it's the best you'll ever have. In the mood for steak? Try the steak smothered with a creamy mushroom sauce. My goodness... The menu is so good it hurts. Seriously. Use your brain and visit the best neighbors around.
After looking at the pictures online, I was pleasantly surprised. It was a great atmosphere with super friendly and attentive waitstaff and the enchiladas that I had were superb. a welcome change of pace to the normal Tex-Mex places in our neighborhood.
