Zavala's Barbecue

This place was legit, all meats I had were spectacular. My favorite was between the beef rib and cheek. All three sauces were delicious.

Everyone was so nice, great friendly vibe.

Already can't wait for next Saturday. Hahaha

My first visit of the recently opened (brick & mortar) location of Zavala's BBQ on Main Street in Grand Prairie. Overall it was pretty good.

The sausage ($4.50 per link) and Turkey ($9 per ½ lb) had a great taste and were very good to excellent. The brisket ($12 per ½ lb) and ribs ($9 per ½ lb) had a very good taste, but they both could have been a little more tender.

The brisket had a nice peppery bark, but was sliced quite thick, so that may have contributed to the lack of tenderness. The ribs had just a hint of sweetness mixed in, but they definitely had some chew to them.

I didn't try the one side offered (potato salad), but did get two of the brisket tamales (also very good) that were part of a special today. Tortillas are offered instead of white bread, which I actually prefer.

I didn't try any of the sauces/salsas offered, as I wanted to taste the meat by itself, since this was my first visit.

For being open such a short time, they're off to a good start. But they have a ways to go compared to Hutchins BBQ in McKinney, Heim BBQ in Fort Worth or The Slow Bone in Dallas (a few of my favorites).

Lastly, it's a very small place with limited indoor seating (maybe 20 people at 5 tables). Outdoor seating is available on several picnic benches. Open only on Saturday, 11am until they sell out.

Google limits you to choosing whole stars, but I'd say 3½ stars overall.

Wow! We’ve been craving a legit bbq joint in the neighborhood ever since we moved to Grand Prairie last year and I must say our prayers have been answered! Everything is wonderfully flavorful, juicy, and melts in your mouth. Highly recommend the turkey, brisket, sausage and pulled pork. Can’t wait to try the beef cheeks next time, those sold out fast!! Thanks Mr. and Mrs. Zavala, we loved it!

Absolutely fantastic, if you are a true barbecue connoisseur then you have to try Zavala's Barbecue. I've been to all of the top rated barbecue places in Texas and I would 100% put this in my top 5. The brisket is mouth watering, the sausage is cooked to perfection. I usually don't get turkey at a barbecue place but Zavala's smoked turkey is probably the best I've ever had. My only advice is to get there EARLY, at least 30 minutes before they open because you will be waiting in line.

Flat out enjoyed our BBQ today!!! Our beef ribs, beef cheek, and brisket were exquisite- tender, juicy, and very flavorful... bark was amazing! Grand Prairie is now home to a top tier bbq joint in this great State!
