Mestizo: Tapas & Drinks

This was an interesting new place to try! I like the concept, and I’m definitely a fan of fusion food.

Social distancing was hard in this place since it was so packed, but everyone wore masks and outside seating was available. The gal that helped me was also very kind.

I ordered a large White Rabbit Candy Boba Drink and Truffle Nori Fries. I love the idea behind both of these products, but the flavors just didn’t come through. The blue boba in the drink wasn’t super chewy and tore apart easily in my mouth (they were more firm and solid). The fries needed salt and were almost bland. The truffle and nori flavors were present, but the fries were dry and needed a sauce. Overall, I had a very okay experience here.

I’d love to come back and try more of their menu items. I don’t feel I can accurately review this place having only tried one food item, but this drink item is supposed to be their “signature” drink.

First time trying Mestizo today. Overall it was pretty good and the store is cute. I had the birria tacos, the white rabbit milk tea with blue boba, and churros. The tacos were small but stuffed with lots of beef and were delicious. I ordered caramel churros and received strawberry ones but they were still really good. The milk tea was slight sweet and tasted exactly like white rabbit candies which I loved. The blue boba/jellies were a little tough at first but became softer the longer they sat in my drink. I’ll probably be back to try the rest of the menu.

I made an order for pick up during the soft opening and picked up a few things for my family. My parents are hard to please but they absolutely enjoyed their food. Particularly they loved the sizzling sig sig which is also one of my favorites. We also ordered the beef tacos , the calamari that includes a dipping sauce (yum!) and a couple of drinks. The strawberry daiquiri was a delight on that hot summer day. The restaurant was very clean, cute and the staff’s energy was very welcoming. The food and overall experience was great and I will definitely go back try the broth along with other menu items.
