The food was really good! The beef fajitas were yummy and I could order a "poco" queso to go with my fajitas. Good lunch place!

Opened by George Torres in 1971 and still Family Owned and Operated, (Part of the Guadalajara Restaurant chain), El Gallo has been serving the same incredibly delicious Tex-Mex food for 48 years!

Although the patriarch, "George" has stepped down from the day to day operations, you can still spot him in the dining room on occasion having lunch wirh friends.

I grew up with El Gallo, (went to school with Fabian, one of the brothers), who now runs the business, El Gallo is a family tradition, my kids have been coming here since they were toddlers and I have since it opened!

With a great staff, (Ernesto Gomez - Mgr. runs the Jones Rd. location), you can't beat the service, consistent and perfectly executed dishes of true Tex-Mex.

I highly recommend The Enchiladas Al Carbon with Beef Fajita meat, beef gravy and topped with a generous portion of American cheese! There is no beating their Chili con Queso and the "Nachos George" are the best!

If you love authentic Tex-Mex food, there's no other place in the city that compares to the historic eatery, you owe it to yourself to give them a try!

I live in Austin now, but NEVER go back to Houston without a lunch/dinner date at El Gallo!

Went here for the first time over the weekend on a whim. Was a very good spread and lots of food. Tasted great and great service.

Pleasantly surprised! We tried cheese enchilada (what can I say? That’s what I was craving) and the fajita burrito. Both were great. Quest is good, not just melted processed cheese. The salsa is the only thing that kept them from getting my fifth star. It’s missing something. Maybe if it was heated? It tastes a bit like enchilada sauce rather than salsa. Service was fast and attentive without being overbearing. At lunch, food came out quickly.

I've been eating at El Gallo for over 20 years. Most of the same waiters still work here, which translates to great work place, great Mexican food, more traditional than run of the mill Tex Mex chain restaurants. Our son is grown and when he comes home to visit, El Gallo is on his list of places to visit and enjoy a fun atmosphere of dining. Cant go wrong, put it on your list! Favorites are cheese enchiladas and chicken flautas!
