Houston, we have a Japanese food truck (literally the name of the establishment as well) that serves not 'fusion' style food but good ol' Japanese street food that you can eat on the go and it's really good too! I was just driving down Westheimer heading to a familiar yellow and black logo 24 hours breakfast joint for some late night food but lo and behold, there's a new food truck parked in the parking lot of Nippon Daido, Genji's, and Bistro Le Cep strip mall. Upon coming to a closer inspection, they serve traditional Japanese food here!

The menu is very simple right now with only 3 food items, okonomiyaki (a Japanese savory pancake), yakisoba (stir-fry noodles), and takoyaki (wheat flour-based batter octopus in a ball shape snack). I only ordered the okonomiyaki because they make a very limited amount and also it's a bit more expensive than I would pay for but I was hungry and since I'm already here, I might as well try it. Now there's actually different styles of okonomiyaki and the one they have here is Osaka-style. I like that they have explanation sheets on the truck to tell people about what each food they serve are for people who may only had mainstream Japanese food like sushi and ramen only.

My okonomiyaki fairly quick as they do state that some would be pre-made and will be on the grill to be kept warm, and I am fine by that because if you do make okonomiyaki from scratch, it takes quite a bit and people who order from food trucks usually would like it fast. The okonomiyaki looks really delicious and it was really well made. The softness of the flour dough is nice and soft, then comes the middle of the shredded cabbage with a great crunch, and the savory taste of the meat, and the well rounded with the bonito flakes, okonomiyaki sauce and the Japanese mayonnaise, last but not least with generous portion of green onion and pickled ginger.

Again, right now the price of this okonomiyaki is $13, it is definitely on the high side but it also does fill you up pretty good. I do not know any other places within the vicinity that sells okonomiyaki so I can see how they have priced it at this commanding of a price. This goes the same for the yakisoba and the takoyaki with the current price point of $11 and $10 respectively. With that being said, if you are in a mood for something different late night and don't feel like dealing with sitting down in a crowded and noisy restaurant, you should definitely come and check out Japanese Food Truck.

They are doing something different and filling a niche market that seems untapped. You should even just come out and watch the Hologram Show of the 3D animated Japanese idol singing cartoon for a giggle. I would certainly come back here but only to treat myself because of the price, not something I can come and eat everyday at this point.
