The food here is simple and unpretentious. You also get lots of it, and Andy's serves the best cheese enchiladas in town. The building is a little ramshackle, but it all fits.
Yes, go to Andy's if only for the cheese enchiladas. You will be back.
A little run down and could use a facelift. Prices are great, but don't expect large portions like other restaurants. Not much selection for dessert. Food is decent and arrived pretty fast. Bathrooms small but clean; only allows one person at a time. Waitstaff a little slow and I had to repeatedly ask for things (could be just that one server we had). Parking sucks. Only limited space up front... I don't know where I would've parked if I hadn't found a spot. My parents love this cozy hole in the wall.
You can't beat home made tortillas, whether flour or corn. The ladies here are like the sweet aunts and grandmothers that want to make sure your eating well and get plenty of food before you go. This restaurant has very deep roots in the heights and has stood the test of time and gentrification. My husband had been eating here since he was a child and we will continue to come to Andy's.
This place came very highly recommended! While it was very good and had some unique things on the menu, which I give points for oh, but I did not try, my friend did have the Colombian enchiladas with a fried egg on top and said they were great. There are Tex-Mex and Mexican restaurants on every corner in Houston and it was definitely not something I would go out of my way to eat all the time. The waitress Grace on the other hand was extremely nice and friendly and for her I might go out of my way occasionally! And the Heights in general is a very cool area that I like to support.
