I wasn't expecting the prices when I went here blindly while on business. They have a great upscale atmosphere. Fantastic fresh baked bread (French bread). I got the lunch sampler. It included an over-fried tilapia but was still decent, very good fried shrimp, and some phenomenal fried catfish tails. All tasted good overall. My real only letdown is that they lacked sweet tea. The facility is excellent and the service followed suit. Overall I was impressed but not without some slight shortcomings.
Most of our favorite dishes that made us Pappas regulars were missing from the menu. Upon inquiry we were told that the Webster Pappas is steering in a Mediterranean direction. I had to settle for fried shrimp. 8 SMALL fried shrimp with fries and a small bowl of coleslaw for 21.95. Ridiculous ! If you want really good LARGE fried shrimp, go to Kelley's in La Marque. I go to a restaurant for quality of food, not to brag about where i had dinner. I guess this is the direction Pappas is headed. This is completely ruining their menu. Do not expect to go to this Pappas and find the Cajun flair that's made them famous. It's very disappointing to see a restaurant trying to be trendy. My wife and I were surprised to see the restaurant almost empty at 7pm. Now we understand why. We will never visit Pappas again !!
We had an excellent dining experience there!
For an appetizer, we tried the Spanish octopus (tasted similar to grilled scallops - a very mild, white protein)... also have yummy Australian lamb chops, and a Pappas salad with blue cheese dressing on the side... again, very nice.
For the main entree, we had Branzino with mushrooms, etc - again a winning choice. Service was from a 'new guy' - and he served us very well keeping the drink glasses full, brought us warm crusty bread and whipped butter... all delicious.
I really like Pappas desserts - but there was no 'room' left - so we passed this time. My usual favorites include the brownie with ice cream, key lime pie (it has an amazing graham cracker pecan crust on that pie) - and of course, the cheesecake.
Wanted to get some fresh seafood while close to the Gulf, found this place online. Looked good, reasonably priced, had a Houston local say they were good, so I went there with 5 other friends for dinner. It was SOOOO good! Did not disappoint at all!! Highly recommend! I had the broiled plate with salmon, scallops, and shrimp, I went all out and added a lobster tail too. Everything was delicious!!
