Herbert's Taco Hut

Wasn't sure about the name but reviews were good. We got there at 1:15pm on a Monday afternoon. It was a 20 minute wait and SO worth it! The guacamole (gets 6 out of 5 stars it was that good) it was phenomenal. The taco salad I had was one of the best. My husband had the chicken enchiladas and gives 4.5 stars, my son had tacos and gives a 4.875 star rating. Go there for sure!

My boyfriend and I stopped by for dinner tonight and we had a wonderful time. Our waiter David was very professional and attentive. He is the best waiter we’ve had in San Marcos so far! We will definitely be back because of the great service and great food!

Had a field trip at Texas State for the dance team. I'm the bus driver and I brought my daughter and her best friend with me. The facility did not have food so we had to seek elsewhere. Looked on Google maps for something close and bus accessible. With its neatly 1100 reviews and still a 4.5 rating I was hooked already. Jose was our server and he was great. I feel the food was a bit pricey, but it was good. The salsa was off the chain! Best salsa I've had in a restaurant in forever.

Herbert's is always busy but waiting times are minimal. They are always well staffed and operate like a well oiled machine. The cuisine is excellent Tex-Mex. Nothing fancy but always tasty and generous. And their homemade salsa is addicting with just the right amount of jalapeno generated heat. Spicy and delicious.

It is with a heavy heart that I write this review. I really like this place. The ambience is great, the food delicious, and the waitstaff were fast and friendly. I did, however, have to kill a (tiny)roach on my table just before the food was served. The hostess apologized and cleaned up everything. I’m sure this was probably a one time thing. We had such a great time that I am still planning on returning despite. However, I am unable to give 5 stars. Is it condemnation?...or a testament to its greatness? You decide.
