Kava Kava Down

Cute place to meet with friends or study. The street tacos are very tasty with little bits of apple that complements the meat. All the employees I’ve seen are very polite and want you to have a good experience.

I attended the Grand Opening of the Kava Kava Down bar. I learned about the bar and Kava from the owners. I had a wonderful experience and found drinking Kava to be a very interesting experience. They offer Kava drinks with flavors to choose from, Kava Shots, coffee, other beverages, and a light food menu. I'm new to the world of Kava and didn't know what to expect, so some quick facts:
1. Kava has been around for over 3000 years
2. It is a ceremonial drink and it is also consumed by the inhabitants of Vanuatu, Figi, Hawaii, Tonga, etc.
3. Pope John Paul, Lyndon Johnson, Prince Phillp, Hillary Clinton have all participated in the Kava ceremonies.

The Kava drink has a relaxing effect on the mind and body. Unlike, alcohol, I was able to drive and function normally after consuming a moderate amount of Kava. The drink itself is a brown, murky looking liquid that is prepared at the bar. It has a strong earthy smell and taste. For those who do not want a large Kava, I suggest a quick deliciously flavored Kava Shot! I chose to add caramel to my Kava. It wasn't one of the flavors on the Kava menu, but it was for the coffee menu. I don't really like fruity flavors, so I asked if they would flavor my Kava with caramel. I guess we were all interested in finding out if a Karamel Kava could be done- the answer is yes! The caramel took the natural root bitterness out and I enjoyed my Karamel Kava! I got a bit of a tingling sensation along my lips and tongue (totally natural) and then after a bit, I just felt relaxed. Not relaxed in the way THC makes you. My mind was relaxed and clear. The stress of what made my Friday work day LONG was gone. What makes Kava Kava Down unique is Kava attracts a very diverse crowd and people ages 18-70! You will meet and relax with people whom you once believed had nothing in common with, and simply enjoy talking with complete strangers and friends.
They have 2 large flat screen T.V’s. One was playing music with the lyrics to the songs. The lighting could be a little softer, just dimmed a little bit for the eyes to relax too. You can sit at the bar on bar stools, sit along a thin bartop spanning across glass window for a view, hang out on the couch, or sit around tables in groups. This is a no-smoking bar, but you can go outside under covering with a nice busy San Marcos view to smoke. This place is new, but I have no doubt that once the college crowd finds their way over to Kava Kava, it will be a great place to hang-out, meet new friends, and have something to enjoy other than crowded bars fueling hook up culture or drunken Frat parties where the only thing you can hear when socializing is the voice in your head! The staff is knowledgeable and courteous. Kava Kava Down gives off great vibes and I will certainly return with friends.

Kava Kava Down was a great new experience. Perfect place to grab a shot of espresso near campus. Loved the street tacos and a cool atmosphere. Would definitely go back.
