Open air dining on the Neches river. Good food (a "little" pricey). GREAT atmosphere and location. Perfect place to hang out with friends on a breezy day or relax for a lazy evening (impressive bar!) and just watch the boats go by. Port Neches park is a short walk away and offers a boatramp, fishing, and an amazing assortment of playground options for the kids. We will be back soon... and often!
My first and only time there was with a blind date. The only reason the date was good at all was because he took me to the Wheelhouse. It was nice, even though the guy ended up being a jerk. Food was delicious and wait staff was courteous, friendly, and accommodating, even on a crowded Saturday night. Our gal knew the menu and drink selections and was able to recommend things knowledgeably. Our view over the river was spectacular. Even on a chilly evening, we were cozy with the fires and heaters around. Plus, there was live music in the bar area. It's all open-air, so smoking was allowed. We weren't crammed in like sardines, either. We had plenty of room between parties, and a good-sized table. It's just a lovely place to dine outdoors. I'd certainly go back anytime, in different company, of course.
Let me begin with the food...it was wonderfully prepared with great flavor and good eye appeal. There was plenty on the dish with some left over to bring home.
Second, the servers and staff, there were so many present with several just standing around talking the entire time we were there.
The staff attempted to seat our party of 4 in the back room. There was no one else in the room and the temperature was very cold. No lights were on and the tables were not set for lunch, no menus, no utensils. We wondered why we were ask to sit out of the public eating area since there were many available tables in the main dining area. We received no answers when we ask. Everyone in our party was clean and nicely dressed. We finally got seated in the main dining area inside.
The restaurant was nicely decorated and the food was delicious but the wait staff needs a little more training in customer service and friendliness. This was probably a once and done experience.????
