Best hamburger in town hope they come back soon ...Tex miller is A Cameron hometown staple
The very best burgers in all of Cameron. The smell of the food cooking takes me back to when I was a little girl. My family love it.
Best burgers and dogs in town. Just ask for an overstuffed dog. She'll know I sent you.
Best cheese burger in Cameron. And a good deal.
Tex Miller opened in 1937 and, despite all appearances to the contrary, they're still open and serving up the best honest-to-goodness burgers I've ever had. No fries, chips. Usually open 10-2, Mon. - Sat.
The "Recommended by David Wade" shingle (see photo) was from David Wade, a Dallas public television gourmand in the 70s. It was in the early 70s that I first visited Tex Miller as a young teen and the place made an indelible impression on me, hence the recent back roads pilgrimage to see if the joint was still alive (they don't always answer the phone). I was not disappointed and my party five – ranging in age from 49 to 85 – agreed it was worth going out of our way for.
An 85-year-old family friend writes, ""Tex Miller's was the only place in town that we could go for hamburgers and cold drinks and hangout at the end of a date when I was a student at C. H. Yoe High School in Cameron. I never went inside very much because we usually stayed in our cars and got curb service. There were always several cars with two or four people in them angle parked along the curb on Friday and Saturday nights. These pictures bring back a lot of memories."
Mr. Miller retired in 1989, Ms. Sandy Terry bought the business and has faithfully continued the tradition all these years. I was happy to see that nothing had been "improved" upon, even the "new" flat top grill – which was installed in 1956 – is still in use. At the time of our visit, January 24, 2017, the price of a cheeseburger was around $4.50.
