It's no longer backwoods but still a nice drive and a place to deffinatly check out. Food is good price wise is pretty cheap for food and drinks!
It's now Backbone Bar and Grill opened on 9/1/2016 great atmosphere best bartender in 10 county's. Food is great & drink prices are too. Really fun bar. Owners are hand on and always ready to take care of there customer. Now open 7 days a week...
Great little bar in the middle of some beautiful country. Just getting there is part of the experience as it is well into the Sam Houston National Forest. We have been going there for several years - although they have changed owners a few times and were closed for brief periods. The food is pretty good and the beers are reasonably priced. There are pool tables inside and lots of seating outside.

Bear in mind the name of the place. The setting matches the name. We drove 30 minutes from our hotel in Cleveland, Tx to avoid fast food. We found a run down biker looking bar with a dirt parking lot. We were almost afraid to go in. I'm so glad we did! After we were seated the staff was super friendly and fast. The owner is a chef from California married to a Texas farmer. So the food is fresh and delicious. My pulled pork sandwich was awesome and my wife's blackened salmon on spinach feta salad was simply 5-star exquisite. You have to be a member to order alcohol, but since membership is free is signed up and also had a lone star beer. Highly recommended, worth the drive.
