I had come to this place in a bit of a mood, due to my wanting to eat at a more "well known" establishment. My demeanor was not improved at the sight of the somewhat limited selection on their menu. The only thing I saw that was worth settling for, in my mind, was the hamburger. Once again I had been let down by the news that they were out of the ground beef needed to make the aforementioned burgers. There were two men there running the establishment, although it wasn't busy, and one had just stepped out on an errand to get some ice. This left the gentleman that was cooking to also serve the two tables in the dining area. Quite disgruntled by this point, I settled on the grilled chicken salad, wanting nothing more than to get past such a seemingly disappointing experience. My food was soon served. I came to notice the excellent selection of leafy greens topped by a beautifully grilled chicken breast, diced into what I consider perfectly sized cubes. My irritated disposition gave way to the cravings that my stomach was sending to my brain via now excited nerve cells, that in a wonderful chain of events, led my entire being to become excited at the prospect of trying this wonderfully crafted, yet seemingly simple dish. As the aroma of the still hot chicken drifted to my olfactory senses, I took my first bite. All of my worry and disdain faded away and I was overcome with a mixture of happiness and regret. Happiness that I had come across such a wonderful meal, and regret for ever judging this establishment before the first bite. Also, despite being the only employee at the time, the gentleman was nothing short of attentive and courteous. It is only natural that any establishment would run out of an ingredient or two from time to time, just as it is only natural for this particular "small town cafe" to completely turn my expectations around and blow them out of the water. I will be returning in the future, ready for what I know will be a wonderfully enlightening meal.
