We were a little concerned whether the suishi would be any good, because there were no japanese chefs behind the counter rolling sushi, there was nothing Japanese about the place. The suishi prices were very high, so we each ordered a suishi combo plate that came with salad, miso and a roll. The salad was very good! The miso soup was ok, and the rolls were small maki rolls.
With the combo roll, you have your choice of any roll on the maki part of the menu. Rainbow rolls were in that section, so two of our party ordered them. They were a decent size and tasted good, but we learned later that they were an add on and added $5 more on the regular combo. It turned out that the rainbow rolls was not supposed to be in the maki section. It would of been nice to have been told that you ordering, so there was not surprise when the bill came.
I gave the restaurant 3 stars because the rolls were good, but not memorable. Our server was crotchety; the environment was typical Park City bar vibe (not sushi bar). It is ok for grabbing a bite, but of your craving great suishi and variety, this probably isn't the place. Upon a return to Park City, I probably wouldn't come here again, since there are so many great places to eat.
Not really impressed with the spicy hamachi... Like it's no spice at all. Just tuna rice and seaweed. Pretty disappointed with my yellow tail in general also. Not great jalapenos and my yellow fin is just fishy
Shabu is an experience from the moment you walk down the unique downstairs entrance, to taking in the fascinating decor, to the moment you take your first bite. Personally, I loved all of it. The staff was very kind and professional. Let it not be said it isnt expensive, it is. My husband and I celebrated our anniversary here and we ordered something from almost every category of the menu and it adds up fast! But you get what you pay for and the food was absolutely delicious. Whatever sauce was on the salmon dish was amazing! The only thing I would not recommend is the dessert. We got both the lava cake and the fried ice cream. The lava cake tasted like it came out of little Debbie's box. It was presented beautifully! But it was dry and small. Though dessert may have fallen flat the rest of the food and the experience was fantastic! We will most definitely return once we have another special occasion to celebrate.
Great decor, atmosphere, and charm. Service was good (not stellar, had to ask for water when the entire table needed a refill). Regarding the food, it's pricey and sometimes inspired. Make a reservation if you're planning to go. The bar area towards the back fills up too. Will go again.
