Caffe Utopia & Bar

I came here tonight because I was looking for different food. I have always heard utopian food was great, however I never tried it until tonight. This place was absolutely incredible, I can't even describe in words. Our service was amazing! Mike, the owner took amazing care of us and was so experienced with everything on the menu. He even gave samples to make sure it was something we would enjoy- we did. I will definitely be back, many times. Caffe utopia is a hidden gem and you must try!

Caffe Utopia & Bar is phenomenal!!! I had never eaten Ethiopian food before and WOW! Everything they serve is organic and all of the beef is grass fed! I highly recommend the meat lover. We got the filet, lamb, and salmon for the meat and collard greens and the mushroom stew as sides. Absolutely amazing. While we were eating, the staff brought out an order of lentils, and they were one of the best things I’ve ever eaten. The spice in the food is delightfully hot (just enough to know it’s there, not enough to bother anyone who isn’t too great with spices, like myself) and the flavors leave you wanting more. On top of all of that (as if it wasn’t enough already), the staff is extremely kind and generous and makes you feel like family. I would highly recommend and will be returning very soon!

Food and service were excellent. Nice quiet atmosphere on a rainy night. Perfect for a quick girls night out in the neighborhood. Highly recommend.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this place!! Stumbled into Caffe Utopia last night and could not be more thrilled to find such an amazing gem in the neighborhood. This place is by far The Best New Thing to come to Alexandria this year and I highly recommend everyone come check it out.

Upon walking inside, I instantly felt like I was home with old friends; the owners made me feel so welcomed and comfortable. We chatted easily and it reminded me why I moved back to Alexandria. They genuinely cared about me, my food preferences, and my overall experience. The food was spectacular as well!

It was easy to tell that Caffe Utopia is a labor of love and what is more satisfying than enjoying food made by someone with so much pride and who gets so much joy from sharing yummy food? So many of my dining experiences in DC just lack the human connection. But you feel connected at Caffe Utopia....

As for the food itself, they use all organic ingredients and everything is made fresh daily. You can't go wrong with the veggie platter... there is so much flavor and not as much oil as I have found in other Ethiopian restaurants. YOU MUST TRY THE SHIRO. There's a fully stocked bar too... Perfect place for date night or a birthday celebration with friends and family.

I'll definitely be back (it's very dangerous for my bank account that this place is walking distance from where I live!)

Wow .... just stumbled upon this place after a shopping trip to Target across the street. The food was absolutely amazing and the owner and server was wonderful. The meat and vegetarian dishes that we had were delicious and our daughter had a specially made chicken sandwich. All in all ... a wonderful surprise and we will definitely be back. Thanks!
