Poplar Grove Golf Club

Fun and challenging course. Beautifully maintained. Nice mix of classic parkland with tree-lined fairways and more open holes around the lakes. I played during the week and it was $70 to walk. I will definitely do it again.

After several long years, conditions of the course are finally improving, that’s the three stars and that’s being generous. But value gets a 0. A round of golf at $145 in Amherst VA, for a course that isn’t anywhere close to pristine is a joke. We’ve played it for the last time. If management intends to discourage public play and rely on their memberships to keep this course going, then good for you, you’ve succeeded.

PG is a contender for the best course in the state. Great layout/track, beautiful scenery, great greens. I have played this course 25+ times and am rarely disappointed. I wish the cost was slightly lower but the new owners/managers have invested heavily in improvements (most notably the bunkers) and have earned the right to increase the fees. Bridges, bulkheads, cart paths, landscaping, carts and clubhouse have all been significantly improved. Pace of play is nearly always at a private CC pace. Lastly, the staff has been absolutely fantastic. Super friendly and professional. Poplar Grove is a wonderful golf course and is improving daily!

Stunningly beautiful and peaceful. An intricate and amazing course that can challenge good players, yet is still easy to get the grasp of golf for amateurs.
