Delicious food, great service. Wanted to give them 5 stars, but they need to work on their outdoor area. I think a place like this a customer has high expectations all around. I would suggest first leveling off the tables, since the glasses were leaning and some even sliding. I would put twinkling lights, big pots of pretty flowers, maybe a French Flag. Pretty umbrellas like Sals. Make it like a French sidewalk cafe. I will be back.
We just arrived in VA from AZ and found this restaurant. My husband and I decided to celebrate our anniversary at Cafe Frank. Upon arrival the manager (I think) greeted us with a smile and a 'Happy Anniversary' comment. My husband had pasta with lobster which was excellent. I had the sea bass special and it was out of this world. It was like butter, beautiful, done to perfection. I could have ordered another sea bass special, except dessert got in the way. This restaurant is a diamond among rubies and emeralds in Charlottesville, VA.
All I can say is wow. We paid Cafe Frank a visit this week and were blown away by the amazing service and delicious food. The fried mushroom appetizer was unlike anything I've ever tried, and based on how good it was, I'm pretty sure I'm legally required to go back and try every single item on the menu. I can't wait to stop in for aperitif hour one of these days!
We came here when for their happy hour and had some of their appetizers which were behind the glass case at the inside front of the restaurant. We sat at the bar.
The staff were friendly and helpful. Our server even gave us a drink sample. My favorite appetizers were the lobster egg and the salmon roll. Their entrees looked too.
We also got a couple of their desserts, a rose dessert and a cheesecake. The rose dessert was surprisingly good— and I don’t normally like the taste of rose. The cheesecake was unique and different from regular cheesecake.
Since the space is limited inside, I recommend getting a reservation. We just happened to come at a good time when there weren’t many people. They also have a small patio. Lovely little French restaurant in the downtown mall.
It is nice to see a real restaurant land in Charlottesville!
From the wine and appetizers to the desert and desert wine, everything was exceptional!
All aspects of the meal were executed with amazing skill.
The mussels, steak Diane, and the chicken were all delightful, the sauces and method cooked were on point.
Only the ivy inn and the now closed downtown grill come close to the quality and execution of the frank.
