Akeno Sushi Bar and Thai

Akeno just opened near me and you only have to tell me sushi once!! The decor is so urban kawaii style and I loved it. The staff is super welcoming. The fish was fresh tasting and the presentation was super nice and aligned with the decor perfectly. I got the sizzling beef and I found the strong flavor a bit overwhelming. I asked the waitress who asked the chef what the dominant flavor was and I was told it was his secret mix…. It was like anise or something… either way, I am not an expert in Japanese and Thai fusion fare so I’m not going to criticize this entrée because others might love it’s distinctive flavor. The desserts were underwhelming and overly garnished but Overall good experience for once in a while… expensive too for a local place in a small shopping plaza.

This place just opened but they already have an incredible staff! Service was top notch and the food I ordered was amazing! Could only eat so much but can't wait to come back and try some more dishes!

Just opened about ten days before our first visit. Smart and stylish decor, excellent food and friendly service. We both had an order of gyoza to start, which was very tasty but (in the sole quibble we have with our experience) it could have been warmer when served. My wife had a seaweed salad and a spider roll, and I had an Atlantic roll and a
Red Dragon roll. Great presentation on custom made sushi boats from Thailand. All outstanding! We will definitely be back.

New restaurant was excellent! Super friendly staff and a spectacular interior design. The food was beautiful and delicious and served in a timely manner! Highly recommend!

This was day three being open so we did not get to try everything we wanted, but had four different sushi rolls and it was some of the best we have had in Virginia. If I could give them six stars I would. The service was great, the food was amazing, we already can't wait to go back. They had Thai dishes on their menu we are definitely going to try next time. I would highly recommend this spot and they have some outdoor dining as well.
