Sushi is OK. Generous cuts of fresh fish. Tendon or tempura don looked hefty, but too much coating and not the light batter I expect for tempura pieces. When it gets cold, the thick batter gets a bit tough and a struggle to eat. Not a fan of breaded carrot. Nice presentation, but not practical because you have to take out the tempura pieces to get to the rice. Rice is not fluffy like what I expect from Japanese rice. Miso soup was good.
The food, service, and atmosphere were all perfect. The food was fairly quick to make and it tasted fresh. I liked all the Japanese comic strips and film posters all over the walls the that staff was super friendly and interactive.
Small but a homey feel to the place. Another little gem that feels like a small mom and pop kind of place, service was great. Nice staff and very accommodating, smiling, and friendly. Got the spicy ramen, removed meat but the broth was pork based. They’re def conservative with the salt so added soy sauce to make the soup salty the way I like it. For spicy enthusiasts, they had this interesting tiny container at the table that adds heat! 🥵 you just need a very small drop lol be warned. It’s in a tiny container with a tiny spoon for a reason.
I forgot what the appetizer is called but it was like deep fried tofu with some sauce. It was delicious. The sauce was delicate but you wanted to soak the tofu on it. They had chilli sauce too at the table which made it even better!
The ramen here is like nothing I have tried before. It is so delicious and they serve generous portions. For instance, the sides for the ramen and the amount of pork chashu per bowl is more than in other places. I also like the fact that they offer different types of spicy condiments. The restaurant is cozy and not too big so plan ahead because it could get packed. Alternatively, order for take out and enjoy at home.
So much to like about this place. Cozy, friendly and delicious. The Takoyaki was slightly crispy on the outside and molten delicious inside, the Veggie Ramen exceeded expectations and finished off with some frosty mango mochi. Will definitely return to try the Shoyu ramen and Tantanmen.
