Mouthwatering flavors....the chicken was perfect. Love it. It won't be the last you see this face????
A relatively new player to Annandale, Choong Man is probably the closest competitor to the "other" popular Korean Fried Chicken franchise. Here they also offer a couple specialty items gizzards and "snow" style which is fried chicken topped with sliced spring onions. But it was my first time here. I came for one thing and one thing only - fried chicken.
I tried two items: (1) Traditional Garlic Soy Chicken and (2) Red Hot Pepper Tikkudak tenders, which is oven chicken tossed in firey gochujang sauce. Like any traditional Korean dining experience, various ban chan (side dishes) are dropped off to whet your appetite before the main event. An "event" it certainly was. It was everything you expect from top-notch fried chicken - crispy, crunchy, juicy, perfectly seasoned, ADDICTIVE. I must warn you though, the red pepper chicken is not for the faint of heart. I have a very high tolerance for spicy food, but this spice-level was intense and it's a slow burn. My first reaction was "oh, this isn't that bad", then shortly thereafter "yep, there it is, that's hot AF" and it continues to grow with each bite... but it hurts so good.
Overall, the food can go toe-to-toe with the country's best Korean Fried Chicken and the service was great. The good thing about this spot is that it doesn't get crazy busy (yet), but I can definitely see this place growing in popularity very soon. One thing is for certain, I'll be back.
I love the quality of their fried chicken!
A different take on Korean chicken, I love how it's not twice fried and very juicy. Good stuff !
If you like Korean style chicken (chi-mek) you should definitely try this place.
Crispy yet juicy. Interesting sauces with garlic, onions, scallions, etc.
The snow onion was great.
They use charcoal for some dishes like the Tikkudak. Fried chicken that tastes like grilled Korean bbq. Interesting and tasty.
The staff were great.
