Old Salem Cafe

What a great find! Thank you, yelpers! My mother and I enjoyed the Triple Club sandwich that was perfect for a break during our road trip. The setting was quaint and took us out of time, which was a relief after being in DC!

As the owner of old Salem I think google and yelp is a joke. I can’t even respond to customers unless I pay them an outrageous amount of money each month. However to all customers. If you enjoyed your visit I’m so happy to hear that. For those customers that had a bad experience I’m truly sorry and you can reach me anytime by sending a message to old Salem’s face book page. Also to David I’m truly sorry about the cherry pie incident with your friend. Thank you for choosing old Salem and do hope that you guys return.

My friend and I, who live 90 minutes apart, wanted to meet and have coffee. We picked Old Salem Cafe because it was centrally located; neither of us had been there before. Our plan was to meet for an hour or so, drink some coffee and be on our way.

I decided to bring the last of my homemade cherry cake for my friend to try. The waitress gave me a dirty look and then scolded us for bringing our own food!

Now, I understand that this place makes their money by serving food and drink, so on the surface, I’m sympathetic to people bringing food to avoid buying food. But, that is not what we did. We never planned to buy food (it was 10am), I had just a small sample to share with my friend.

The waitress made an assumption that was not true and was rude to us for no good reason. I ordered another cup of coffee and left a normal tip. The coffee was fine. The outside sitting area was nice.

I won’t say that I will never visit this place again, but I won’t go out of my way to visit there again. I guess the waitress would have been happier if we would’ve met in a park and not purchased anything from Old Salem Cafe; maybe that is what we will do next time.

Lovely place! The food was delicious, the service impeccable and warm, and the prices reasonable. We are definitely going back, for brunch this time. I can't wait to try their pancakes !

My brother and I decided to try this wonderful place and we're glad we did. Food was excellent. Service was awesome. I had fried oysters and they were fantastic. Lot of food for my dollar. Very impressed. Nice local owned non chain restaurant. I Will definitely be going back again.
