This place is awesome and then some. The way you order is a bit uncommon, takes a few times to get comfortable with it and with carrying a wooden spoon with you to your table. Don't let that stop you though it's the most awesome place around, go with some friends and check it out. One small gripe is the bartending staff can't make a long island, but that's common enough, takes a seasoned bartender to make one the right way.
I can't believe it took me so long to try this place. The food and service were just amazing. We really enjoyed it and will definitely be coming back.
Pleasantly surprised! My wife and I dinned for lunch in their beautiful outside covered patio, that could accommodate a small gathering easily. They also offered an old world ambiance inside, beautiful private atmosphere. Upon my arrival, I was greeted and shown the dinning options. Menu decision was difficult because they have everything that we enjoy. As we waited for a artichoke dip appetizer, we were served fresh baked bread. The appetizer could easily serve two couples. Our main entrees were served quickly and our drinks were refilled promptly, we can't say enough good about a service. 5 ???? from us! Will dine again!
I ate at Hunter's Head Tavern for the first time this weekend. In one word - Outstanding. We sat on the patio. I ordered Chicken Fried Steak ( a dish I grew up with) - a dish that in reality is hard to make properly. It was not over fried and buried in gravy. The dish was perfectly made and the steak was tender. The lemon cheese cake was exceptional. One of our party was gluten free and they handled that easily. Even our furry friend found the dog's lunch quite acceptable. Two issues - my daughter's fries were soggy (some people like them that way). My wife knows sticky toffee pudding - her desert arrived in a soup bowl swimming in cream and sauce. It made it the desert too sweet and a bit soggy. Later on that evening we looked up the recipe and even the chef's recipe called for a "drizzle" of sauce. Something went amiss. Still - the food was really good, the atmosphere pleasant, and staff very accommodating. If you get the chance go - we are going back!
We moved to the area about one year ago and had never stopped-in until recently. We are glad that we did. The building is historic and architecture jolts you back to what one would imagine the old pubs from the American Revolution and horse drawn carriages. It's a lovely atmosphere, especially for history buffs. The food that we ordered was spectacular and service amazing. We will absolutely be back!
