Went there for the first time today. This place is all food and service. If you're looking for chic ambiance, you're at the wrong place. Not saying I don't enjoy the simplistic nature of the decor because I do but I go to restaurants to eat good food and the Happy Clam has that in truckloads. I had the fried clams (a small mountain), hush puppies, coleslaw and.of.course, sweet tea. It was delicious on all counts. Our servers were quick, polite, and very easy going. The German Chocolate pie (that's right...pie) was superb and homemade. All in all...I will be going back, that's for sure.
Excellent experience! If u want a local seafood restaurant where everything is made homemade, to include the pies, add this place to your bucket-list! Service is great, food is fabulous, and the atmosphere is small home town. Definitely a must try!
Excellent service with efficient and menu knowledgeable server. Had Restaurant Week special of a quite large broiled Captain's plate with 2 large pieces of catfish, 3 large shrimp, 6 oysters, 5 scallops, a crab cake with kale as side and a delicious spring mix salad. Because of eating plan I am on had to forgo their previously delicious hush puppies I've eaten there before but wife was more than glad to get my share.
Oyster stew more soup but flavorful. Shrimp in po boy had an irony taste. Not sure if they were fresh. More likely frozen. Prices too high for what should be fresh from the bay or ocean taste.
I speak, to some degree, five languages, and there's not enough vocabulary to properly elucidate on how great this place is.
You can't go wrong here. The service is great, the food is great, there's ample parking, and the prices are just right. Not too expensive, and not too cheap.
Anytime I'm in Fredericksburg, I do my level best to make time for the Happy Clam.
