We gave this place a try early on a Saturday night; it was our first time. The food and service was good, but nothing stood out. We plan to visit again and give a more complete review.
We went early because we'd heard it gets "rowdy" later in the evening. It was quiet for us at 6:30PM.
We went to Great American Ranch - Mechanicsville recently for dinner. The food was good and reasonably priced. We were there as a family and were seated in one of the large dining tables to the front of the bar area. The service was good and the waitress was very attentive. Perhaps it was the night we were there and the proximity to the bar area but the clientele at the bar was very loud and extremely vulgar. I would go back but ask to be seated in the area away from the bar.
This bar is not for the faint of heart and is nothing like the restaurant it replaced. It is a bar now with some food available.
We stopped in to see a band that we liked and to, hopefully, get in a few dances but before the band started there were puddles of spilled drinks and ice all over the place. The constant cleanup makes for sticky floors, so any real dancing is mostly out of the question.
The patrons, mostly 30 and 40 something's, seemed to be having a good time as the band worked through the first set. Upon leaving we walked through the rest of the building which is all standing room only.
It's a great local hangout I'm sure, the drinks were good, but not with the 30 minute drive from the Southside of Richmond.
We have been twice so far. The service was great both times and the food was mixed. For dinner we ordered cheeseburgers and the loaded fries which are part of the happy hour. Cheeseburgers were great and loaded fries seemed like they were sitting for awhile before coming to us, the cheese was already hard. The second time was breakfast and I ordered the”World Famous Pancakes”. They were burnt, you could smell them as soon as they arrived. They put a golden brown one on top to make them look better I’m assuming. Was not edible.
