Love this pizza
AND. Is FUN to eat as well..
I was really impressed with this place. They don't offer a lot of toppings, but what they have is excellent, and if you want something they don't have, they invite you to bring your own! The cheese has a complexity of flavor that a lot of pizza places miss, and the crust has an artisanal quality that only comes with extra care and extra hours of rise time. Benny's has a cool collegetown vibe and the prices are great.
Pizza is always great! Just a suggestion that when it's pretty busy to get names of customers and call them out + their order rather than just the order. Was confusing one day when me and other customers weren't completely sure whose order was ready because we all ordered the same thing (and there's only four slices to choose from typically)... And we didn't really pay attention to who had ordered first and whatnot.
Quaint atmosphere. You can dine in our take out. Pizza is huge! Quality is good! Not many toppings available, but they allow you to bring your own!
It's hard not to like a 28" pizza!
Luckily Benny Sorrentino's' doesn't do anything to change first impressions.
Like most Valley pizza the crust tends to be underdone. Being a former "Heathen Yankee" I grew up on real New York pizza, so it's a bit unfair for me to ding them for putting out a product that appeals to the taste demographic. But for my taste, the oven temperatures need to be higher to make the crust crispier. (They will cook the crust crisper upon request)
The sauce is good and not overly sweet; the cheese is a tasty mozzarella, liberally applied.
They source quality ingredients, from the flour to the meats and cheeses, the flavor comes through in their products.
Pricing readable considering the portions.
Staff is friendly, competent, and a genuine pleasure to deal with. Owners take note, you need to give props to your people.
The restaurant itself has limited indoor seating; outdoor seating is available on beautiful days.
Being in downtown, it's less than a two-minute walk to Massanutten Regional Library; I typically grab a slice to go and walk over to sit in front of the library.
Benny's is a great place to have, whether grabbing a slice to sit outside and people watch, or taking a pie home.
