I've been to the Fredericksburg location several times but this was my first trip to the Madison location. The entire experience was perfect. They had roasted orange duck on special and it was amazing! The appetizers were great, as was the schnitzel. The service was perfect as always. I will definitely go again.
Nearly everything I've ever eaten there has been excellent. The schnitzel and the sausages are amazing. I love the side dishes as well, with the exception of the carrots (the sauce has a bit of a strange taste). The giant pretzel alone is worth the trip, although you'll have less room in your stomach for all the food they give you for the entree. Every time I've eaten there I've needed a to-go box. Definitely one of my favorite restaurants in the Charlottesville area.
Serious Eating. This is a rare restaurant that can satisfy 3 generations of my family. The wait staff are excellent. The food is delicious and rather heavy. I am a recovering vegetarian and usually order the trout. Our group is large enough that we get the full gamut of yummy and intriguing sides. My husband and father can't resist the giant steins of beer. Hubby had a giant plate of sausages and was great with food baby when we left. We'll go back, not often, but once or twice a year for a special event.
Had the most amazing service, the food portion size was enough to feed two. The fish of the day Salmon stuffed with crab. Great sides.
