We dined here July 31, 2019, and the evening was a comedy of errors, so I am not reviewing the service or really the experience we had. But I think that what is really important is the presentation, preparation, flavor and freshness of the food that is served here, and in all those things the dish I enjoyed excelled. This establishment is and should be more bold to claim to be a Mediterranean restaurant, and the ethnic names of the dishes would probably be more exotic and appealing than the American names on the present edition of the menu—most Americans probably are not especially excited by the prospect of “meat loaf” or “casserole,” but the versions served here have nothing in common with the Little House on the Prairie or My Old Kentucky Home—unless your Mom was Persian. What is true is that the dishes are delicious and beautiful and wholesome, ESPECIALLY Charlotte’s Casserole—which has already been beautifully photographed by William Barbrey, an earlier reviewer—; and careful examination of the details given on the menu will save you from inadvertent inclusion of (delicious) spinach. The beauty of any Mom and Pop restaurant is that you can have your personal preferences incorporated on request.
The salad is fresh and attractive, and the bread is homemade. Dinner portions are generous. There is beer and wine available, but the list is not at all impressive.
The atmosphere, service, and food were all excellent. Don't let the blacked out windows keep you from enjoying this gem!
Decided to try something new and we're glad we did. Waitress very helpful as we found the pita outstanding, and the bread just wonderful. We will definitely return.
This restaurant is definitely one of the best kept secrets of Newport News. I attended a going away dinner for a co-worker and was pleasantly surprised. Instead of playing music from a stereo, they had someone playing the piano. The prices were good, the service was exceptional, the food was amazing and the decor was absolutely beautiful. Just driving by and seeing it from the outside, you truly wouldn't expect for it to be a gem. Perfect example of not judging a book by its cover. I can't wait to return and try something else.
