Keep in mind this is a fast food type of joint with a dine in option. All the food/drink is served in plastic and styrofoam. Staff are very pleasant. I’ll compare this place to Yamato’s in Wise, VA. Dear Osaka has smaller portions at roughly the same price as Yamato’s. The food at Dear Osaka’s is much better than Yamato’s. I only ate raw sushi and hibachi at both places. Both tasted good at Dear Osaka’s. The miso soup was great. Overall, the food was average. Don’t leave a tip. You order when you walk in, get your own drink, plastic ware, condiments and seat yourself. Also, neither of these restaurants offer the full Japanese experience. Neither serve saki, imported beer or alcohol of any kind. Dear Osaka’s is the clear winner for Asian cuisine in Wise/Norton area.

Our family loves sushi and hibachi, so we were excited to hear that a Japanese restaurant was coming to our area. We we're not that impressed. Osaka is just ok. We've eaten at plenty of other sushi restaurants, and Osaka didn't meet our expectations. The quality was lacking. The restaurant is set up like a fast food restaurant.

Been here twice now, and this is definitely one of my new favorite places to eat here in Norton, VA! First time I got the chicken hibachi and a Godzilla roll while my husband had a combination bento box and gyoza. Our second trip we both just got chicken hibachi. The hibachi was fantastic and I would definitely say my favorite! The chicken was tender, had great flavor and the veggies were good. Now the broccoli the first time was a little tough, but second time it was fine. The rice was great! The Godzill roll was fantastic. For note, I've never had a deep fried sushi roll, but the crunch and taste was so good! The gyoza was also a huge hit with my husband, he greatly enjoyed them. The prices are very fair given the portions and quality. Staff have been very courteous and polite both times as well.

Had dinner here the other night. My overall impression was "meh". Like sure it's good for Norton where there isn't really many options for Asian food that isn't buffet (until Yamatos opens) but I had seen people saying it was the best sushi they had ever eaten. In the interest of getting a balanced idea of the food I ordered a roll that included raw fish (rainbow roll) and a roll that included tempura. They were both just ok, but I have had far better sushi just in Bristol, Kingsport, and Johnson City. I also ordered hibachi, the meat was ok but the vegetables were so undercooked that I couldn't even eat the broccoli. Fried rice that accompanied was very bland. On a positive note the miso soup was good and the wontons were 6 for $6 and were also good. They also have a weird set up, if you eat in you order up front from a display or menu at the register and then pay immediately like you would at a fast food restaurant, you seat yourself and get your own drinks. Even if you eat in everything is served in styrofoam or equivalent to go containers and only have plastic utensils which make eating hibachi difficult. Overall I would rate a 3.5 out of 5 and that estimate may go down depending on how Yamatos stacks up when they open.
