Family run business
Folks are hometown and there is a palliative family vib
Good food and loved the hospitality of Rodney and his mom. Also enjoyed Rodney’s art and if I had an inch of wall space left would have bought a piece or two. Was so pleasantly surprised that such a small town could have such a charming restaurant. Loved my sandwich!
The café is clean and staffed by friendly people. Service was a bit scattered, but always happy.
My main disappointment was with the food. It was NOT AT ALL BAD, but it wasn't really anything special. My tomato soup tasted like an unseasoned tomato sauce, and my husband's sandwich (the Tuesday special with corned beef) was very uninspiring: the corned beef had no flavor and was easily overpowered by the roasted peppers in the sandwich.
I think this place has a lot of potential, but they really need to work on making their food's flavor pop.
The Brisket Sandwich is as good as it gets. The BBQ chicken is great. The all beef hotdog with sauerkraut could not be better. However, their sweet potato and strawberry cake will make you look forward to your next visit before you walk out the door.
I had a wonderful lunch at “The Artist’s Café” this week with a friend. My lunch was the fancy grilled cheese with tomato soup. My dining partner enjoyed the BBQ sandwich with delicious homemade coleslaw. Pineapple cake and Key Lime pie came home with us to be enjoyed later. Yum! The decor is beautiful and the staff were very friendly. I will definitely be back.
