This is one of the Best kept secrets in VA. EVERY THING IS GOING TO CHANGE YOUR LIFE! So good. My daughter and I meet here for Daddy/Daughter Day!
We have been trying to get a table here on a Saturday for quite a while. There was always a wait list for up to an hour and a half. We were usually too hungry to wait.
Our next attempt was on a weekday around dinner time. This place over-shadowed my hour drive and previous failed attempts to grab a seat.
We each chose the catfish platter with potatoes, collard greens and cornbread. The first taste was a moment that caused my eyes to close, a smile on my face and a soft sigh of sheer satisfaction. Portion sizes are more than enough, which made me happy to know that I could enjoy a little bit more of this goodness later.
The host was warm and welcoming; wait-staff very pleasant and definitely earned a well-deserved gratuity; restroom clean, just don't wait until you're prancing in place; may be a line there, too.
I would rate this restaurant 5-stars, if my favorite dish of yams were a choice.
Oh my goodness... I never thought a place like this existed!
The food is so delicious and fresh, is like I'm at grandma's kitchen for summer vacation... My tummy was filled but I couldn't resist to eat it all.
And the waitress was a sweetheart, so kind. We spent so little for the big plates, rich flavor and big party we had, we were 10... not expensive at all. We're definitely saving it for when we go back to Virginia! ????????
Food was awesome. Some of the best soul/comfort food around. No kids meals unfortunately. A little loud so it does not lend to an intimate setting. Always a wait on a Saturday but it moved pretty quickly.
