“Arriving a little early for our reservation, the bartender told us a bit about the history of the restaurant and its ownership. They make great cocktails and have a good selection of local beer too. If you get a chance to go in the Presidential room adjacent to the bar, I recommended having a look. At dinner, all the food was absolutely amazing! So much so I won’t recommend anything specific but just say, order what feels right, because it’s going to be good. Thanks to the family that owns the joint now, really made it a memorable occasion.”

“We were seated at the time of our reservation. We were celebrating our anniversary with our kids and were seated at a table overlooking the James by the window. Our reservation was at 6:15 and the sun was shining in on us. The temperature outside was 101 and we were a bit warm during dinner. Our waitress was wonderful. Drinks came quickly, as did our salads and entrees. The food was excellent. Two of us had stuffed shrimp, 2 of us had simply grilled rockfish with pineapple salsa and the other person had salmon with pineapple salsa. Everyone loved their dinners! Food was outstanding. The view was lovely, although we were sweating on the inside.”

“I enjoy going to this cafe. Their drinks and food are very good and it's a cool, hip place to hang out. One question though- Can Lamplighter explain the rationale behind the reduced hours at a time of year when people like to hang out and enjoy themselves in the evening at a place like Lamplighter? I could understand reduced hours in the winter when it's cold and dark in the evening and no one wants to go out, but closing at 5:00p in the summer? Seems odd to me.”

“Heard good things about the wings. Went on a Friday night about 9:00 after Friday Cheers. Sat outside, nice atmosphere. Not very busy overall which leads into why only 3 stars. As we heard, the wings were awesome along with the onion rings. Now for the not so great. Our waitress was very inattentive, once she took our order and the runner brought our food out and told us he’d bring us extra napkins (which he didn’t), we didn’t see our waitress again until we each had 4 out of 16 wings left. She then appeared, said she’d bring us napkins and didn’t come back for about 15 minutes. Once she brought us those, she left again, no refills were offered until we finished our meals. We then waited for those, the check never was brought to us. We had to get up and go to the hostess stand to get it. Overall food good, bad service.”

“The food deserves five stars. The service tonight was unbelievably sub-par. The waitress in the striped dress was fine upon us ordering of their house red. She began to become slightly rude after two out of three of us ordered the Lamb Meatballs (we had both eaten earlier and just wanted a snack). So the the entree and one of the apps arrive at the table about 12-15 min later. No problem. She lets us know that the other app will be out shortly. Over ten minutes later once one person's food was finished and the other was mostly done they arrive with the appetizer for our third guest. The waitress was calm and kind during the discussion of him not really wanting to take it with him or eating since we were basically finished. However the general feel from the server was distaste and attitude towards us. I don't know if the server has a rough night leading up to our table, but there was no excuse for how we were treated. No manager or anyone chose to stop by. I will be back, but I hope the service steps up a notch next time. This visit was saved by the quality of food.”

“Oh my goodness... I never thought a place like this existed! The food is so delicious and fresh, is like I'm at grandma's kitchen for summer vacation...
