Amazing views if you’re lucky enough to go on a clear day! Make sure you get up there early enough to rent snowshoes. They require them to be returned at 3:30 and unfortunately we didn’t get there until 3. We did just fine with our yaktrax though! Awesome hike.
Bundle up! So much snow up there right now that Grandson was sledding for HOURS. He loved the children's sled area (and so did I).
Really appreciate the visitor's center and the fact they had extra thick socks and gloves up there (in addition to a rental area with snow shoes, etc.). It was not planned so it worked out well that we could get him what he needed up there!
This review is for my visit on June 19, 2019.
Amazingly stunning place. Beautiful panoramic view of the Olympic mountain range. "Hurricane Ridge" is a befitting name for this part of the park, as the winds were strong and persistent. There are a number of hiking trails of varying lengths to explore. I briefly hiked the High Ridge Trail, getting only about half way before turning around. The trail leading up to the peak was very narrow. With foot traffic going both ways coupled with the high winds, it felt too precarious to continue on. One perk to the experience was seeing a black bear foraging at the base of the ridge.
One piece of advice I can give is that you should prepare for cold temperatures. The temperature was in the 50's mid afternoon, but with the wind it felt more like 25.
Despite that it was an amazing experience.
This place is very special. My sister brought me here, and we had a great time with the jaybird. These camp robbers were relentless in their pursuit of food. I loved every minute of it. We wanted to be there at sunrise but got there right after so no too much traffic or people so it was a great day to enjoy and take in God's creation.
It's a 17 mile twisty drive to the top, but well worth it! The expansive view goes on forever. There's a quaint gift shop/restaurant at the peak, and hiking trails. Being over 62 years of age, I purchased the Lifetime National Park Pass. $80 and quite the deal. I can now visit any National Park in America , plus 3 guests, for free, for the rest of my life. My parents taught us kids the beauty of nature. Time for me to pass that on. Please do it too.
