Wife and I arrived and the door was unlocked and music playing inside and people inside. Walked in and was yelled at by a person that they were closed.

Looks like they let their friends inside before they’re open to the public.

This is the First and LAST time coming here!

That’s fine if the door is open but that’s not how you talk to people. The proper thing would be to get off your chair talking to your friends and walk over and introduce yourself and say we open at 11.

That would’ve been just fine, but the ounce of prevention you didn’t care to give us has now turned into a pound of cure, hasn’t it?

I’m adding some stars to my review. I’ll throw you a bone here - we wanted to come in there because it looked like a really nice spot to have a beer and wings and shoot the bull. I hope this adds more context to the situation. To look at it from our perspective, you could understand why my wife and I reacted like, “Did that guy just shoosh us out of here?”

Live in Ridgefield, first time here tonight for 7:30pm dinner. Great draft beer selection. The food was very good. Burger and chicken sandwich were great including the crispy tots. French onion soup had a dark deep base to the broth. Very good. Chili arrived cold and dry. Asked for reheat. It tasted very good, yet dry and because of that was disappointing. Service was exceptional. Atmosphere leaves something to be desired. Definitely a louder bar atmosphere and walking in the door with the pool tables right there was strange. The other half of the room was an open dinning area but not very cozy at all and the bar music was so loud you could not have a conversation. They’d be better off putting up a wall and then building some cozy half walls with booths and making the other half look more like a restaurant. But, in the end this is just a bar and grill as advertised with an awkward restaurant feel. Wish it had better indoor appeal.

The sportsman would be what I consider your average small town bar and eatery except for the employees. The employees make this place great . they're very welcoming , happy to help , service with a smile and make you feel like you're family . with 2 pool tables a family friendly restaurant side for those who just wish to eat out and have to bring the kids . more beer selection Then you can shake a stock at and plenty of house drinks and a home cooked meal kinda menu selection it's a good place to stop in and wet your whistle or feed your face.

I have never had a bad experience here. The staff is very accommodating, and friendly. The prices are decent. A big pat on the back to the new owner. The atmosphere is welcoming.
