It was a very fun place to eat old world charm must make reservations if you want a dinning experience old world food would love to take out of town guests here quiet an experience. Dress is of peasent theam
Amazing experience. Food was amazing, setting was immersive and service was on point.
The food here is absolutely incredible! Most people have the idea that medieval food is bland and uninteresting, but visiting this place for a meal will teach you otherwise. Our group was so impressed with the food that after we'd finished our meal, we bought two copies of the cookbook! The cookbook is just like the place itself: full of delicious food and TONS of historical information for those who want to learn more about the food of past eras and some of the reasons behind the use of different spices and ingredients.
If the incredible food isn't enough to entice you to visit, the staff might! Everyone working at the Bors Hede restaurant is in character, making it feel like you have actually stepped back in time. The servers are there with songs, stories, and poems to entertain you while you eat, and the performances are spot on and very enjoyable.
There are a few things you should keep in mind when you plan your visit. Guests don't have to be in medieval garb to visit, obviously, but they do prefer if you don't bring out your camera every five minutes or talk on your cell phone while you're there. I doubt they'd kick anyone out, but they do want to maintain an atmosphere as close to historical accuracy as they can. It's probably not a place to visit and take tons of pictures of your food and ask the servers to take photos of you and your friends.
One other note: in keeping with historical reality, most of the food your order arrives on a 'trencher' rather than a plate and is eaten with your hands rather than a full complement of modern utensils. The server brings out a pitcher of water and a bowl to wash your hands before you eat, but if you're if you're a paranoid germophobe like me, you might want to insist your friends visit the bathrooms to wash with soap and water before your share your foods with them. It's not a big deal, especially if you don't go the family-style route like we did and therefore keep your cooties to yourself, but it's something that might throw you off if you're not prepared ahead of time.
We had dinner Wednesday night at the tavern and Roger was the innkeeper taking care of us. He was awesome, we didn't know what to order, so he suggested that we get "the cook's platter" and everything was great. We ate everything and left feeling stuffed and satisfied. I'd highly recommend Bors Hede for anyone who appreciate a little role play and /or medieval history. You can wear some peasant garb to really immerse yourself!
We went only for a dinner during the week.
Having no idea what to expect, we had a very pleasant evening. The place felt authentic from end to end. What was worn, how things were decorated, the buildings, the gardens, etc.
The food was interesting. Sort-of expected, sort-of not. We enjoyed everything though.
The waiter was extremely kind and talented. Very attentive.
We would likely come again in the future.
