I heard about The Counter at Old Ballard Catering and paid a visit after ordering online. They made it pretty easy to order online with an easy to use online ordering system accessed from their website. They had a lot of Greek foods, I heard the owners are of Greek descent, but they also had other foods like fish tacos. I ended up going with the Athena gyro because it’s not something I’ve had before. I parked at the restaurant and waited and one of the owners brought it out to my car even though I had not checked in yet – very good service. The woman was very friendly as well. For the food, the gyro was tasty. The fries were a nice addition to the gyro, but what struck me the most was the meat. The pieces of meat seemed less like they were on a spit and more like they were pieces of steak. I can’t confirm either way, but I appreciated the steak-like quality of the meat they put in the gyro. I’ve seen the storefront they are currently in change hands a few times in the past few years and I hope they will hold on to for a long time to come. I definitely recommend visiting!
Excellent food and service. I usually pick up from here once or twice a week. I really enjoy trying the new weekly specials, I've loved them all. Honestly I've enjoyed everything I've tried and I've made my way through a good portion of their menu at this point. Highly recommend giving them a try!
Where did this place come from? Doesn't matter it's obviously divine. Classic and bright flavors, top notch execution, and truly wonderful service make this place a hidden gem.
Also, those tacos are so good, you'll want to keep em a secret, but you can't, cause if your friends find you out, you're gonna look bad. So you share it anyway, but you still low-key hate you shared. But it's ok, because tacos make everything ok.
I don't typically go out of the way to write reviews but given the current landscape I want to make sure to support local and this place was great! I think the most notable thing is the affordability. The gyros are delicious and huge and less than $9. The fish and chips are also a big portion and super filling and only $13. I think at Ivar's and other local spots it can be $15-17+. Overall, great food, great prices, and will definitely be back!
The first thing I have to say is that the customer service goes above and beyond. They were extremely nice and accommodating.
Now, I've never had gyros before moving to Seattle but they've become a favorite for me since I've been here and I've enjoyed checking out different places. The Athena Gyro is without a doubt the best I've had. There are really good places to get gyros on the ave where you just get that super intense gyro flavor and a lot of them are great, but this is a step above just great college kid hangover food. just looking at the gyros here you can see that they're beautiful and they clearly are using super fresh ingredients and everything is just well rounded and great. The Greek fries were also really good! They manage to make them more substantial than ordinary fries without making them too heavy which is like magic.
And finally the chocolate is great as well. It's nice dark chocolate that's got a little crisp and one package has just enough chocolate that it would satisfy two people, but you wouldn't feel like you overdid it if you ate it all.
I'll definitely be back.
