2/20: I really enjoy this place, but it's run across some rough times recently. They've sold their arcade game collection, and aren't getting the town and University patronage they need. Hometown service, a varied selection of drinks, and an overly friendly atmosphere make it my favorite bar in Shepherdstown, so I hope that things turn around. I especially like the outdoor porch area, but the inside is very spacious. Great for drinks, not a hookup bar. Haven't really tried their food.
Very cool space. Set up for live music. I stopped in with a friend to get some burgers. Food service is a bit confusing. A guy came from behind the bar and took our order, then I think he said "They'll call your name when it's ready". Well, the place was very quiet, my ears work well, and no one said my name. Finally the guy who took our order brought it over from the window to our table, with a look that said I screwed up somehow. Sorry, guy. I did my best. And the burgers didn't quite live up to the hype. Overall, if I wanted a beer and to see some live music, this is a great place! Nice and open. I believe it used to be a feed store, close to the railroad tracks. Plenty of character, from the original wood floors to the work lights overhead. I withheld a star because I was starving and the burger just didn't hit the spot. A word of advice: Don't use a spiney piece of romaine lettuce on a large burger. Stick to iceberg or spinach. I had to take the lettuce off just to be able to pick it up and eat it.
THE LITERAL BEST SUNDAY BRUNCH I'VE EVER HAD.
This place is great. Has a really cool, laid back vibe. The bar serves interesting beers on tap and the food menu is diverse. I usually go with a burger because the waffle fries that come with them are delicious. The kids menu has a good selection, too. The arcade in the back is fun, $5 will last you a while.
They also host art exhibits, live music, movie nights and public discussion forums.
All in all, a real treasure right on the edge of Shepherdstown. Give it a try.
My goodness. If I had a local watering hole, or even just needed a place to hang out on a regular basis, Town Run would be my place. For a bar in an old hardware / feed store (it's spic and span clean here, understand), the wine list is superior, with many approachable, friendly, affordable and easy-to-drink yet well-made pours. And the music selection (Cuban jazz when I was there) is delightful.
Bonus : Family- / child-friendly ! There's an adorable play area with books and blocks for kids.
