WOW! Great food and great atmosphere. I had the banger and beef with a side cup of their authentic Irish potato soup and my wife had Jack’s famous roast beef. All was delicious. I loved the homemade banger sausage and the pulled corn beef was the best I ever had. Wife said the roast beef was amazing and the bakery roll it was served on was really good. We had to ask how the homemade horseradish sauce was put together, but was kindly denied the recipe as it is a family secret. As I enjoyed a couple pints of their signature lagers, we were entertained by a gent playing the piano. After dinner... we just had to get up and walk. We wandered about the restaurant taking in all the unique pieces of furniture and awesome bar. Jack met us on the outside balcony and shared a little history with us. We felt as family! Unfortunately we only make it through Fountain City a few times a year because we live in central Illinois, but we will stop at the Monarch every time from now on. Thanks for what you are doing Jack.

We are done looking for cool places to stop while on our annual Lake Pepin motorcycle ride. This places holds all of what we look for! Good owners, awesome story, cool vibe, and amazing food! Had the fish and shrimp and it was fantastic. The menu catered to those who are gluten free and who wish to have fresh and local incredients! Can't wait to stop back! P.S. it's worth stopping just to see the cool old bar!!!

Visited The Monarch for the first time today. (Will not be my last) The atmosphere is very old school tavern. John (Jack) the owner is a super guy, friendly, attentive and personable. The wine list though not exceptional is way above any place in the area. The whiskey selection is very good. I had Red Breast 12y. Come on, it's a good Irish bar! This brings me to the food... The bangers and mash were the best I have had in my life and I'm an old guy. If you are in the area don't miss this wonderful pub.

It starts with the ‘curb’ appeal. From the time you are walking up to the front door, you get a feeling of the ambiance.
Of course the interior also reflects the historic charm of the building. High ceilings and lots of old stuff on the walls.
In the nine years I’ve been going to the monarch, the food has never disappointed. From traditional Irish to a great pizza the Monarch has something for everyone.
If your in the area or need to travel to a destination restaurant the Monarch is it.

The Monarch is a favorite stop of ours, although it is a 40 minute drive, it is worth every mile. The food is great, I love the fact they do not deep fry food. Their sweet potato fries are the best I have ever tasted. One of my favorites is the Reuben, done to perfection. Do not forget to try the Beers from the historic Fountain Brewery, personally I like their Red Prairie Ale. Stop in, you will love the atmosphere and friendly staff.
