The park is not designed entirely for the benefit of the occasional small hike, but a natural oasis for birds, animals in native fauna of the area. There are many birds that nest and live near the two spring fed ponds that are a source for a small Kokanee hatchery once used to replenish nearby Wood Lake. The park was converted from a dilapidated farm, and with the help of Parks Canada it becomes a unique example of sustaining small natural habitats where people choose to live and develop. George Mitchell was the Superintendent of Kelowna Parks Department, and was responsible for development of Kasugai Gardens and Knox Mountain lookouts, along with many other beautiful parks in the city.
