Brian Picken has been around horses and livestock his whole life. He began professionally training horses at a young age and has been involved in showing and promoting the horse industry in eastern Ontario for many years. Brian’s training program has evolved and developed thru many years of working with other trainers, countless horses and their owners. He's developed his own successful, 30-60-90 day program using the principles of pressure–release training and modern horse training techniques that produce quiet, broke, responsive riding horses. The program is designed to start the horse in saddle from day one and high expectations are placed on all horses in the training program.
Horses are ridden a minimum of 5 times per week and are schooled using a very applied, prescribed approach to their education. Brian can immediately identify when a horse is not understanding the lesson and has a number of strategies and schooling exercises to catch any problems and ensure the horse continues to develop thru the program on a day to day, ride by ride basis.
An integral aspect of the Program is that owners commit to working with Brian and their horse during the training period. Two free lessons are provided per 30 day period in order for Brian to assess the riders level and help them to understand what they need to learn and know to ensure they continue their horses education when they leave the training facility. All clients are welcome to come and watch their horses in training anytime and are encouraged to actively participate in the sessions. Lesson horses are always available for all riders and visitors who want to ride and learn.
