Excellent westernized Chinese food with free parking in the heart of Ottawa’s Chinatown

Very decent food primarily catered towards westernized tastebuds. New ownership offers tasteful decor and very friendly service staff.

There are 10+ free parking spots on the side of the restaurant, which is a huge bonus in downtown core.

Would make an excellent venue for team building, parties and small wedding for those who love Chinese food!

    Recommend.

The service was amazing! Everyone is so nice. I went on a Wednesday around 5:30 and the place was almost completely empty so the atmosphere was great. There is a low radio playing and low lights so this place is easy on the eyes. It’s quiet and so relaxing. Anyways the food was the delicious cherry on top!!! The food came in huge portions. Me and my gf ordered steamed pork dumplings and beef buns as appetizers and they were so good, not long after, our mains arrived they were general Tao chicken and fried udon noodles. The food was hot and crispy and perfectly made! This is one of the best places I’ve been for food in general. Can’t wait to eat the left overs. We came here starving ate half of the food and left stuffed!!!!! I suggest eating here if ever in Chinatown or Chinatown area!

Came here to celebrate my mom’s birthday. A few things to note:
    1. Food was fantastic; we got a variety of dishes (see photos) such as: general Tao chicken, crispy beef, chicken with black bean sauce, spicy ginger chicken, fried noodle with vegetables (no picture), spring rolls and chicken with corn soup (no picture). Every single dish was a hit with the group.
    2. Our waitress was a gem! The place was quite busy and she was the only server; we over heard her tell another table they the other server called in sick last minute and therefore she was alone. With this ordeal, she was so pleasant with a smile on her face and just extremely personable.
    3. The atmosphere is cozy … a little tight as it’s a small restaurant but cozy

4.5 stars. We had two green veggies (Kai lan aka Chinese broccoli, and bok choy), crispy garlic pork, sour and spicy soup, smoky beef rice noodle and dim sum trio. For background I am a visiting Singaporean Chinese.
One of my favourites was the garlic pork which I found very fragrant, savoury and crispy. Some of my friends found it too salty. The two green veggies were lightly seasoned and crunchy, which I liked. Very refreshing. The sour and spicy soup was also authentic though one friend found it a bit tomato-y. Standout dish was the smoky rice noodle which the waitress recommended. There was a strong smoky “wok hei” flavour, though one friend thought the beef could be more tender. Overall this meal more than satisfied our craving for Chinese food!
Only drawback was the dim sum trio (Har Gao/shrimp dumpling, Siew Mai, and Xiao long Bao). The fillings were tasty but the skin was too thick and doughy.

Mekong is one of the oldest Chinese Restaurants in Chinatown OTTAWA. The ownership has been changed recently. It reopens just couple days ago. It got renovated to a brand-new look inside. Simple but classy. Second floor can host private events for about 40 people. Menu is new. Dishes are very Chinese authentic tasted with Canadian friendly way. For some dishes like whole Peking duck you need to order one day in advance, which make senses for small restaurant like this. It’s everything new but same great taste.
