IGNITE: An Acton Academy

As a Certified Strengths Coach, I understand the importance of all people from a young age being aware of their weaknesses and managing to them, BUT THE GREATEST OPPORTUNITY for any student's success lies in building on their strengths and this is why I love the concept of IGNITE. Compared with those who do not get to focus on what they do best, children who have the opportunity to use their strengths are six times as likely to be engaged in the classroom and more than three times as likely to report having an excellent quality of life. This should be the future of education, which will also lead to a more productive and happy workforce.

IGNITE is an amazing school for young children and primary-aged children alike. The team cares passionately about changing the way education is done for the better! I've had the pleasure of getting to know the founder Lisa very well and know her every decision is grounded in what's best for the kids. She has so much respect for the kids too! It's a joyful and empowering environment for growing minds that involves the families every step of the way.

This review is based on my investigation into the philosophy and program of Acton Academy. Giving students agency, focusing on big, overarching concepts, treating kids as philosophers, gamifying learning with badges and other rewards, engaging kids in hands-on projects and Socratic dialogue, individualizing the pace on core subjects…these make up a beautiful, learner-centred education.

Our two boys have been attending Acton since August and love going to school each day - which was not the case in the past. They are both very excited for the opening of IGNITE this summer.
