The Keg Steakhouse + Bar - Oshawa

The new restaurant isn't as good as the old one. The original Oshawa location had a homey feel to it, it was cozy and welcoming, the food was top notch. The new restaurant is very modern looking and the food is now mediocre at best. There doesn't seem to be a party room anymore so you'll be seated at different tables with other customers being sat at other tables around you. I can however say, that one thing that hasn't changed between the old restaurant and the new is that I've never once had an order come out correctly on the first try.

Honestly, I love the Keg. Been to the Keg Mansion on Jarvis in Toronto dozens of times. I even went to the Oshawa one a few times before the renovations. I have always enjoyed their steaks and the relaxed feeling of enjoying a fine meal in nice surroundings served by friendly staff.

However, going there since it was reopened, I cannot believe a designer came up that layout for the dining area. Long, crowded closed-in rooms which more resemble the inside of a really beige and boring train car with no windows than a fine dining establishment. Crowds are fine, but the noise, the congestion and lack of space to even hang up my coat made it feel like I was eating in a coach section on a discount airline. It's very clear they are more concerned with squeezing more people in than they are ensuring their patrons enjoy their surroundings. Still a friendly and courteous staff and great steak (hence 3 stars and not lower) but it's not the pleasant Keg experience of which I have become accustomed.

Great dinner with friend. I found Keg's quality is pretty standard. I had seafood and steak. Because I choose mashed potato, the server asked me if I want to divide my portion to seafood with sides and steak with sides, I did, and shared main course with my friend and we ordered 3 appetizers to share, the garlic shrimp---mouthwatering, avocado with tuna tartar---is OK, I am not a fan, Calamari very tasty. We were enjoy the dinner, and satisfied with every dish, expect for tuna tartar. Service was wonderful, worth 25% tips.

We went to celebrate our anniversary. The service was excellent as was the food. To finish off they brought us a complimentary slice of Billy Minor pie to share. The new resturaunt was spacious, brighter than the old one, we thought that it was a little quieter as well. We had a great time!

We had a wonderful night here! We came at 5:30pm on a Saturday with 2 young kids and the staff were so incredible. I would like to especially thank Nicole, who went above and beyond in every way to make sure the kids were having a good time. In the words of my daughter "I never expected them to be so kind". Thank you for a wonderful night out as a family - we will be back!
