Great food, love the menu, a lot of variety. You get tons of things for the price, banana and drinks. Love their mango drink, so yummy!! I like that you can see what you want to order. Love their tea. Staff so friendly, they gave tea for free to try out as we were new to the place. Love their wraps. Price is great. Tons of seating available. Parking available. The seating area is clean but it looks like floor doesn't get cleaned throughout the day.
We first went to Istar because we wanted to try something a little different, but we've been back countless times because they serve up a hearty 'home cooked' style meal. I always go for the goat, potatoes and rice meal. The meat is so tender and reminds me of the lamb chops my mom used to cook up!
The restaurant is very clean and the staff is exceptionally friendly. You can order take out or sit in the dining area to eat. The meals are very affordable yet the servings are quite large. Istar is a must-try for anyone in the area.
Don't judge a book by it's cover...the outside and plaza may seem kinda sketch, but the food is great!
My coworker and I just found this place, which is two minutes away from our office. Wishing I'd found it sooner! We went here recently and both had large plates of rice, butter chicken soup, beef, potates and BBQ chicken.
The service is good and staff are friendly, and the price for what you get is decent.
Definitely coming back here again; based on some of these reviews, I'd like to try some more of their rice options, or the beef wrap.
First time eating Somali food and it's pretty darn good. The shopping center seems a little shady. The way the restaurant is set up is very awkward too, you walk in and it's very narrow and you've got to walk past the register to order then walk back towards the register where people are lining up towards you. It's a bit of a cluster. The fried chicken was ok. The price point was good as you get a full container of food. At first I felt they were putting too much rice in there. After i tasted it, it almost wasn't enough I ate it so fast. They out a bunch of whole spices in the rice, it was so fragrant and delicious. If nothing else, go try some of their rice. Highly recommend it.
My passion is to taste a different food I've never tasted before and a visit to a new restaurant. I visited this restaurant IStar Somali Cuisine when I was in this area. basically one of the restaurants which is open 24/7. Good customer service. Hailing from India, I could relate this Somalian food to my food. The lamb steak was their famous dish and it was at its best. The combo though compared to other Places, it was little pricey but justifies the quantity. I had packed the left over for next day's lunch. The lady over there was kind enough to treat me with another type meat to taste which i did not order at all. The combo comes with two types meat(chicken/Beef/lamb) with potatoes, salad and special rice mixed with raisins and spices. The beef samosas tasted at its peak. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to all nationalities (you can handle the spice). They have breakfast options too.
