La Mona's

One of the best pizza spots I’ve been to yet. Great price, and worth every penny. Will be back again no doubt

Now here is a place that exceeded my expectations.

This place is a little hole-in-the-wall in a unique area of Toronto that is filled with sketchy looking bars. We were on the hunt for a a bite to eat after having visited the Royal Ag Fair, and took a chance on it. We only expected a half decent pizza...

However; what we found was this gem of a pizzeria; also, the owner, Edward. This guy is an asset to the area the the restaurant world. He's one of those few people who doesn't just run a business that happens to cook food; he believes in it. As he stated more than once - this was his families food.

We bought the large pizza and ten wings, $20 you can't go wrong. He recommended having sesame seeds on the the crust and told us he puts the wing sauce on the side.

The wings were fantastic, they were breaded lightly - not greasy, but with a nice crunch; his medium spice sauce had just enough heat to keep things interesting but without interfering with the flavour of the chicken or the breading. Serving the sauce on the side worked out well, as you could enjoy the wings bare (which were fantastic) or with as much/little sauce as you wanted.

The pizza was a real winner, fresh mozzarella cheese, great pepperoni (It is very flavourful, is cut rather thick; that isn't a bad thing, just something to note if you prefer a bit more towards the crunchy or cup 'n char style of pepperoni), and one of the best sauces I've ever had on a pizza. The sesame coating on the crust really brought it home. I went ahead and ordered a cup of extra sauce on the side just to dip the crust into, it was that good!

It should be noted that he makes the dough daily, as well as all of the sauces.

This place is filled with such passion and great food, that it is worth going out of your way for. Edward was an amazing host and I'll be happy to patronize his business in the future.

The people that work there were great. Very polite and personable. I had ordered their chicken wings and I have to say, probably some of the best chicken wings I’ve eaten in Toronto. Perfect blend of juicy meat with crispy breadcrumbs, La Mona is definitely the spot to go if you’re looking for some quality food. Will definitely go there again.

Pizza was decent for the late-night eat. Service was super-fast, helpful and friendly. We did expect more based on previous online reviews. What we didn't like is the number of (angry) fruit flies, which kept jumping into our meal.
