Garcia's Cantina & Cafe

I love eating here. We always have great service and the food is worth the drive!

This has been a family favorite since it first opened over two decades ago. There is no privacy or intimacy; it is loud inside and there is an open bar situated right in the middle of it so there is extra bar-and-TV sound as well. However, the food is good and we are among the clientele consistently leaving generous tips. For a few years when Garcia's was first open, they offered a free meal to a diner with acceptable DOB identification. We Always had family parties there, bringing in up to 18-20 diners who would not have otherwise been there that date. For whatever reason (perhaps the management changed), Garcia's decided that they would save money by eliminating the one-to-two dozen paying customers, so the free birthday meals ended. I am not aware of any other discounts (military. senior, etc.) They do offer a free dessert to the birthday diner. Oh well. Their call. Our kids are grown and away from home now, but my husband and I still go back for a good Garcia's meal every few weeks.

Very mediocre Mexican food. The salsa was ok, chips where kind of fresh kind of not. Pretty much every other bite of chicken had a piece of grisly chewy something that you couldn’t eat. But the beans were good and the service was good.

This was probably some of the best Mexican food I’ve had in Alaska. I ordered a taco salad and they actually drained/dried the lettuce, instead of letting it sit in the shell to get all soggy. The wait staff was super quick and friendly. I will definitely be back!
